A 43-year-old Los Angeles man was arrested on suspicion of stealing shoes and other clothing from a tent at the Nautica Malibu Triathlon, authorities said Monday.
A security guard observed a man carrying items from a merchandise display tent and loading them in a vehicle about 10:30 p.m. on Saturday. He tried to stop the man, but the suspect got into his vehicle and fled.
The guard followed, and alerted deputies at the Malibu/Lost Hills Station.
The vehicle was located on Kanan Road near Troutdale Drive in Agoura Hills.
The deputies searched the car during a traffic stop and found several pairs of new shoes and clothing.
They later confirmed the stolen items came from the tent. Robert Laquinto was arrested on suspicion of burglary, possession of burglary tools. He also had several outstanding misdemeanor arrest warrants. Bail for the burglary charges was set at $20,000. The bail for the warrants was $70,000.
