Burglar Nabs Dog's Ashes, Diamond Ring From Home Near Malibu

The dog's ashes were in a cedar box, which was taken in the burglary.

A burglar stole a box with a beloved pet's ashes and a diamond ring from a home near Malibu this month.

The burglary was reported on Sept. 6 on Malibu Vista Drive near Topanga Canyon Road, according to the Lost Hills/Malibu Sheriff's Station.

The homeowner told investigators she went out to dinner for about three hours and returned home to find her jewelry box on the floor and a cedar box holding the ashes of the dog gone.

The ring, which had a platinum band, was worth $7,000, according to detectives. 

The burglary remains under investigation.
