Firefighters Quickly Douse Fire

Flames are contained to brush only and extinguished in about an hour.

Los Angeles County firefighters put out a quarter-acre brush fire in Ramirez Canyon in Malibu on Saturday.

Firefighters were sent to an area not far from Pacific Coast Highway at Kanan-Dume Road at 9:59 a.m. Saturday and had the fire out at 10:47 a.m., a county fire dispatcher said.

No structures were threatened and no injuries were reported, she said.

A helicopter helped douse the flames in under in an hour, according to reports from the scene.

The cause was under investigation.

New cars are have been allowed to be produced without ash trays for many years now, which may include rental cars. When a smoker rolls up to an intersection after a long drive to make a left turn, and has a long-burned cigarette in the left hand, before the legally-required turn signal lever gets pressed (actions which could cause ashes to dump on one's leg), there goes that cigarette . . .

The fire was not at Kanan and PCH, the area is flat, and is basically pretty much all structures. The fire was in the canyons at the top of W Winding Way. From my vantage point, I could see the flames coming over the last hillside before many homes on W Winding Way, mine included. In my photos and from my ten power binoculars, I could see electrical towers, it appeared as if electrical wires were done, one resident later confirmed that there was a wire down, but whether this was due to the fire, or caused the fire, I, of course, cannot say. The fire was less than a mile from some homes, but no structures were damaged. Some residents on W Winding Way were fighting the fire before our wonderful firefighters arrived, and then, of course, let our wonderful firefighters on land and air do their incredible jobs. Bottom line is, Our Malibu Firefighters Really Are Awesome beyond words. I, and many other residents support them every year for all of the holidays, give to the toy drive, and just want to say thank you as much as possible. They are on the job 24/7 with auto accident response, in home emergency response, all kinds of situations beyond fires as well. Thank you so much Malibu Firefighters for getting this fire out so quickly. With great appreciation. Alexandra
