L.A. County Fire Welcomes New Public Information Officer

Fire Captain Tom Richards has served the communities of communities of Malibu, Altadena, Gardena, West Hollywood, Norwalk, Inglewood and Lawndale.

L.A. County Fire Capt. Tom Richards was recently promoted to act as the official voice of the department during fires and major emergencies.

"Helping people is what I really enjoy, not just the community members, but also the people on the job. Whether it's a medical response for a resident, or cooking for my crewmates, it's about the people," Richards said in a recent news release.

Richards joined the LACFD in 1994. Richards, who grew up in Cypress, served in the U.S. Air Force as a firefighter. After leaving the military, he served as a firefighter in Torrance and Long Beach, before joining the L.A. County Fire Department.
