The Los Angeles Fire Department says it has now fully contained a fire that broke out around 3 p.m. Tuesday.

One hundred and sixty firefighters extinguished the fire in one hour and 39 minutes, said LAFD spokesman Brian Humphrey. The fire was contained to 10 acres and there was no structural damage and no one was injured.

Traffic in both directions on the Pacific Coast Highway is still closed from the Westbound 10 freeway to Temescal Canyon.

The City of Santa Monica issued an alert stating that there is heavy traffic congestion in Santa Monica.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

Gosh, the fire is right next to the heavily-traveled PCH. Cigarette, anyone?

How's it feel Joe Edmiston? How's that heat working for you so close by. Think you might want to reconsider doing the appropriate brush clearance on the lands you oversee? Seriously, how do you feel with the threat of it bearing down on YOU?

Yeah Joe Edmiston! Get your shit together!

LAPD reports the road will be closed all night - anyone have any further information on that?

wouldn't it be cheaper to pre-dump these areas alongside of PCH with water when it becomes this dry?

Think'in there's an unofficial campground behind that wall

word on the ground is that it was a transient campfire that started the blaze.

so what I noticed last night was that it was impossible to get road information. No updates here, nothing on the city of Malibu or SM web sites, Lost Hills refereed you to LAPD, LAPD just said closed all night - and.. the entrances from 10 to 405 and all other 405 entrances up to sunset were closed last night. Why doesn't the city offer some sort of update/data feed for this?

oh and while it might have been transients - I followed a lovely young lady today who flicked the ashes out the window of her convertible all the way through Malibu and am certain the butt probably followed it out the window. Can't dirty the ashtray even on an extreme fire risk day I suppose?

I'd hate to see a real emergency coordination between services
