A 27-year-old Malibu man was killed Tuesday in a paramotor accident in Piru, north of Simi Valley, according to officials.
The man, whose name was withheld pending next of kin, was flying his powered paraglider in the area of the Santa Clara River in Piru when it began losing altitude about 3 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 20, the Ventura County Sheriff's Office reported.
A witness in the area, who called 911, reported seeing the paramotor in distress before falling to the ground.
Ventura County Fire paramedics rushed to the scene to provide medical aid, but the man was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Federal Aviation Administration does not investigate accidents with unregistered aircraft.
