A 27-year-old man was arrested Wednesday on suspicion of shooting a man in an apparent neighbor dispute in Malibu.
The shooting was reported at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 9 at 27861 West Winding Way in Malibu, according to Steve Whitmore, a spokesman with the L.A. County Sheriff's Department.
Arriving deputies found a man sitting on the ground with a gunshot wound to the chest, Whitmore said.
The man was shot in the upper body and the bullet went through and out his shoulder. He was listed in serious but stable condition and his wounds were not believed to be to be life threatening. He was breathing and conscious, Whitmore said.
A witness told deputies that a man in a black SUV was seen leaving the area after the gunshots were heard.
A short time later, detectives spotted the vehicle on Kanan Road, just south of Cornell Road, in Agoura Hills, Whitmore said.
Deputies conducted a traffic stop, and Patrick Leach was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder.
Evidence was recovered from the vehicle.
Leach is being held in lieu of $500,000 bail.
