Teen Falls Off Cliff at Pirate's Cove

He was hoisted into a county fire helicopter and taken to a hospital for treatment.

A 15-year-old boy who fell 30 feet off a cliff at Pirate's Cove in Malibu was airlifted to a hospital today, authorities said.

Firefighters, sheriff's deputies and lifeguards responded about 4:15 p.m. to the 7300 block of Westward Beach Road after a man reported that his younger brother had fallen, authorities said.

The teen was found near the bottom of a cliff and he was reached by lifeguards in a boat, sheriff's Lt. James Royal said.

Due to the incoming ocean tide and the rugged terrain, the boy was airlifted from the scene and taken to a hospital, Royal said.

Cheryl Sims, supervising dispatcher with the Los Angeles County Fire Department, said earlier that the boy suffered apparent head trauma and a possible broken leg and rib.

The helicopter had him at the hospital by 5:01 p.m., Sims said.
