Man Killed in Fiery Ferrari Crash Identified

Mahalingam Shrinivas, 52, died of suffocation as the sports car burned in a ditch along Las Posas Road, west of Malibu.

The man killed when a Ferrari flipped out of control in the fields of Ventura County was identified Sunday as a Los Angeles man, it was reported.

Mahalingam Shrinivas, 52, died of suffocation as the sports car burned in a ditch along Las Posas Road Thursday night, the Ventura County coroner's office said.

The Ventura County Star newspaper reported that dental records were necessary to identify Shrivinas, who was originally believed by officials to have been a different man, from Morro Bay.

The driver of the Ferrari was trapped inside the vehicle as it flew off Las Posas Road, midway between Camarillo and Point Mugu. The car left the roadway at a curve near a bridge about a half mile north of Pacific Coast Highway.

The CHP reported that the car had been southbound and flipped several times, coming to a rest on fire in a ditch east of the roadway, near a raspberry field.

One person was injured in the crash. The crash was about 17 miles west of Malibu, in an area that has seen frequent crashes of exotic cars whose drivers are attracted to the wide-open spaces there.
