National Weather Service Issues Warning About Rip Currents for Malibu
The "hazards statement" is in effect until 11 tonight.
The National Weather Service has issued a Beach Hazards Statement for south-facing beaches in Los Angeles County until 11 p.m. on Tuesday, July 8.
"Surf will average 3 to 5 feet with max sets to 7 feet along exposed south facing beaches especially from Point Mugu to Malibu and near Seal Beach," the National Weather Service warned.
Already this week, a 66-year-old drowned in the waves off Malibu.
"A long period south swell will continue to bring a high risk of very strong and dangerous rip currents to area beaches and elevated surf to many south facing beaches through this evening," says the NWS warning.
Even the most experienced swimmers and surfers can be pulled out to sea by the strong rip currents, the National Weather Service said in a statement.
