Now this is more appropriately labeled... a driver's license and sobriety checkpoint. Can a Sheriff stop a car, committing no offense, and ask to see the license of the driver operating that vehicle? Answer: NO. But - that's what's happening in the Sheriff's takeover of Malibu and our citizen's rights... all under the guise of DUI checkpoint.... this time yielding ONE arrest. How many cars were stopped? It's usually over 1500... Pepperdine - second week in a row it's by Pepperdine... are they trying to get kids now or just the locals coming from dinner or a party? Seriously - when is this invasion of our rights, on our only public highway, going to stop? They have to be spending more than they are taking in. At some point it just won't make financial sense anymore... isn't that what it's all about anyway - money? One DUI? Two suspended or revoked licenses and six unlicensed? We can now officially call them the Driver's License Patrol. P A T H E T I C

1463 vehicles delayed for 1 suspected DUI. Of course it will never be reported whether the 1 suspected DUI resulted in a conviction or what the Blood Alcohol level was. If we were really serious about getting drunks off the road, we would be installing ignition lock systems that detect alcohol on every new vehicle. But then law enforcement officers wouldn't receive all of this pay for sitting around doing nothing. It is time to devise a better solution to drunk driving.
