Owner of Crashed Santa Monica Plane Has Ties to Malibu, FAA Says

A Santa Monica Fire Department spokesman said the crash was "unsurvivable."

A twin-engine Cessna Citation that crashed Sunday at the Santa Monica Airport is registered to a real estate company with ties to Malibu, according to the Federal Aviation Administration.

The plane, which is registered to real estate company CREX-MML LLC, went off the right side of the runway and crashed after landing at Santa Monica Airport, according to FAA records. The flight originated in Hailey, Idaho. 

The plane owned by CREX-MML LLC, which stands for Creative Real Estate Exchange, is registered to the 30300 block of Morning View Drive in Malibu, the FAA records show. The plane can hold up to eight passengers.

The name of the owner is not listed in the report. 

Flight-tracking data showed the craft made four flights between Haley and Santa Monica since Sept. 15.

The area at the airport burt into flames about 6:20 p.m. after the twin engine Cessna crashed into three hangars. The fire was put out after several hours.

"We do not have information on the number of people on board or their conditions," FAA spokesman Ian Gregor said. 

A Santa Monica Fire Department spokesman said the crash was "unsurvivable."
