PCH Reopens Following Accident

Malibu Emergency Operations Center confirms lanes in both directions are open.

A traffic accident prompted lanes in both directions of Pacific Coast Highway to be closed early Thursday evening when a single vehicle struck at least one pole, leading to live electrical wires on the road.

The closure was east of Las Flores Canyon Road on PCH in Malibu just before 7 p.m., according to Lt. Josh Thai of the Lost Hills/Malibu Sheriff's Station.

The female driver of the vehicle suffered moderate injuries and was airlifted by helicopter to a medical center.

Southern California Edison was on the scene quickly, and 12 minutes after the Malibu's Emergency Operations Center alerted residents of the closure, it announced the road was reopened.

According to Edison, no power outages were reported in the area.

Did Malibu/Lost Hills Sheriff notify Patch or the City when this full PCH closure began?

Àre we having more accidents on PCH than ever. What is going on?

@R Y A N, journalists like myself do not get notified by law enforcement or the city as a norm. Sometimes the city does choose to put out an alert through Nixle, which is a great service. A Malibu resident called me and I worked with Rebecca to get up a story while I was in transit.

Better coverage than sigalert

It's absurd that law enforcement and/or the city do not notify local media when accidents happen that impact so many residents and visitors. Three quick emails to the patch and the papers by the sheriff desk guy or just one to Olivia who could then relay it takes two seconds. Could it be "macho impotento?"

Any news on what caused the crash?

Was on my way to Santa Monica when that happened, heard it on KNX. Pulled over to call Malibu road condition and emergency line to see if there would be a time frame for reopening of the highway. I got a recorded message from Saturday! PPFFFTTT. Maybe will check Nixle next time.
