A L.A. County sheriff's detective plans to recommend felony charges against the son of Pepperdine University President Andrew Benton in the overdose death of Katie Wilkins.
The detective is seeking charges of involuntary manslaughter and taking a vehicle without an owner’s consent against Chris Benton, according to KTLA.com. Benton is already serving a two-year sentence stemming from charges that he brought a loaded gun onto Pepperdine's campus last summer.
Benton spent time in a rehabilitation facility earlier last year and was wanted for questioning in the overdose death of 25-year-old Katie Wilkins in April.
Investigators said Benton was likely the last person who saw Wilkins alive, based on surveillance footage that showed the pair at a McDonald’s restaurant on Pacific Coast Highway.
