Los Angeles County Sheriff's Malibu Search and Rescue team was called to Malibu Creek State Park today to tend to an injured hiker.
A 28-year-old female from Camarillo was climbing in a remote area of the "Gorge" near the "Rock Pool" and fell on a cliffside, injuring her ankle, said Reserve Capt. David Katz of the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.
Malibu Search and Rescue, assisted by Los Angeles County Fire and California State Parks, deployed the team boat across the Rock Pool, where rescuers then climbed the opposing cliff face and descended by rope to the injured woman, reaching her just before 1 p.m., Katz said.
She was then lowered to the creekbed by rescuers, secured in a rescue basket, carried to the awaiting boat and rowed across the water to awaiting rescuers, Katz said. She was carried out to an awaiting ambulance for transport.
However, the victim declined to be transported to the hospital and opted to go herself, according to an LASD statement.
