Helicopter Hoists Hikers to Safety From Cliff [Video]
A Los Angeles County Fire Department helicopter assists in the rescue of two hikers from a cliff in Malibu Creek State Park.
Two stranded hikers were rescued just after midnight Monday from a cliff in Malibu Creek State Park.
A 29-year-old man from Thousand Oaks and a 31-year-old Simi woman called for help just before 9:30 p.m. Sunday near Century Lake, according to David Katz, a spokesman for Malibu Search and Rescue (SAR).
The couple began hiking at 3 p.m. Sunday and got to the cliff by 7:30 p.m., but decided to stay out in the darkness and call 911, Katz said.

Members of Malibu SAR made the trek up to the stranded hikers, he said.
A Los Angeles County Fire Department helicopter was called out to assist in the rescue just before midnight and the hikers were hoisted to safety by 12:30 a.m.

The helicopter was called in because recent rains had saturated the cliff, making a climb down with the hikers too dangerous, according to Katz.
No injuries were reported.
This is the second rescue in a week from Malibu Creek State Park.
