Helicopter Hoists Hikers to Safety From Cliff [Video]

A Los Angeles County Fire Department helicopter assists in the rescue of two hikers from a cliff in Malibu Creek State Park.

Two stranded hikers were rescued just after midnight Monday from a cliff in Malibu Creek State Park.

A 29-year-old man from Thousand Oaks and a 31-year-old Simi woman called for help just before 9:30 p.m. Sunday near Century Lake, according to David Katz, a spokesman for Malibu Search and Rescue (SAR).

The couple began hiking at 3 p.m. Sunday and got to the cliff by 7:30 p.m., but decided to stay out in the darkness and call 911, Katz said.

The helicopter was called in because recent rains had saturated the cliff, making a climb down with the hikers too dangerous, according to Katz.

No injuries were reported.

This is the second rescue in a week from Malibu Creek State Park.
