The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department will hold a DUI checkpoint next week in Malibu.

The checkpoint will be held on Saturday, Dec. 14 at an undisclosed location within the city limits of Malibu between the hours of 7 p.m. and 3:30 a.m., according to the Lost Hills/Malibu Sheriff's Station.

Deputies will be checking drivers passing through the checkpoint for signs of alcohol and/or drug impairment.

"Research shows that crashes involving alcohol drop by an average of 20 percent when well-publicized checkpoints are conducted often enough," according to the Sheriff's Department.

and we'll see a lot more of this type of government control over the populace as long as for-profit prisons are the rule of the day.

Malibu needs a shuttle system, or more taxi service. It's ridiculous that on New Years Eve you cannot book a taxi. Ireland solved the problem of drunk drivers by having a fleet if small car/Eco friendly taxis, it has been very successful and saved many lives. Frankly Malibu has become a bit of a pill, they have closed every venue that had live bands, and plan to replace it with another Mexican restaurant! I miss the old days of the Crazy Horse saloon, and the Trancas inn even the Malibu inn has gone.A cool cocktail lounge would be great, enough of the "family " restaurants. Pepperdine students could make good money driving people up and down the highway, and it would make for a safer pch.

I agree with Julie. A shuttle would be awesome. Instead if the 534 that barrels through town refusing to use anything but their Bright Light setting on coming or in your rear view.
