Venice Boardwalk Suspect Frequented Malibu Community Labor Exchange

The owner of the Malibu Community Labor Exchange says he believes the actions of Nathan Louis Campbell on the Venice boardwalk were "out of character."

The man accused of striking pedestrians on the Venice boardwalk last weekend was a regular at the Malibu Community Labor Exchange, according to reports.

Nathan Louis Campbell, 38, was at the Malibu Community Labor Exchange, which is next to the Malibu Courthouse, just hours before he is accused of mowing down pedestrians on the Venice boardwalk, the Daily News reported

"This guy was calm, really helpful. We had no complaints about him, and in our eyes he was a good worker," Oscar Mondragon, director of the Malibu Community Labor Exchange, told the newspaper. "It's out of character in my eyes."

Campbell pleaded not guilty Tuesday to one count of murder, 16 counts of assault with a deadly weapon and 17 counts of hit-and-run, according to the District Attorney's Office.

Campbell is due back in court Sept. 4, when a date will be set for a hearing to determine if there is enough evidence for him to stand trial. He faces up to life in prison if convicted.
