Commissioners will make recommendations to the Malibu City Council on cultural arts policy, the use of city parks for arts-related events, purchases of art by the city, outreach to Malibu artists and other tasks.

Malibu's new Cultural Arts Commission will hold its first meeting later this week.

The meeting is set for 6 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 26 in the community room at Malibu City Hall, according to Councilwoman Laura Zahn Rosenthal, who spearheaded the effort to bring about the commission.

I would love for their to be an "Arts" center where the old post office is next to Urgent Care. A center for gallery shows, lessons, study, poetry readings, creative discussion, concerts, and sharing amongst the many artists in Malibu and the surrounding local areas. Something like a Center that brings the creative minds together in Events. http://www.mendocinoartcenter.org/ How marvelous would it be as a "welcome" to our beautiful city to have right there in the center of our small town? My art is inspired by the hills, creeks, and shoreline of Malibu, I would love to give back and would be available to help....www.theorganicgallery.com...Deb Haugen
