UPDATE: Council OKs Additional Funds for EIRs for Hotel, Crummer Projects

Both proposed projects are in the Civic Center area of Malibu.

Editor's Note: The council allocated additional funds, and did not vote to extend the environmental impact reports as was initially reported.

The Malibu City Council this week allocated increased funding for separate environmental reports for two large-scale Malibu projects.

The council agreed to the extra funds for the Environmental Impact Report for the proposed Rancho Malibu Hotel and the Crummer Site Subdivision Project.

The reimbursement for the Crummer Project increased from $194,444 to $218,564. The cost increase for the hotel project went from $171,611 to $201,604, according to a city staff report.

The Rancho Malibu Hotel project calls for a 274,936 hotel complex with 146 rooms on a 27-acre site on the corner of Malibu Canyon Road and Pacific Coast Highway. The plans include 21 detached casitas.

The Crummer Site Subdivision Project will include five homes on 24-acres across from Bluffs Park.

The project's developers have an agreement with the city of Malibu to dedicate part of the property for the development of additional ball fields.

A draft EIR was released earlier this year.
