Council Considers Requiring Solar Panels on New Malibu Development
The Malibu City Council will consider on Monday whether it should pursue a policy that would require all new commercial development to include solar panels.
The proposal was put on the agenda for the Sept. 23 Malibu City Council meeting at the request of Mayor Joan House and Councilman Lou La Monte.
The council is expected to give the proposal a green light and ask city staff to come back with a report, according to a city staff report.
In January 2011, the council adopted an ordinance that suggested voluntary measures for the implementation of environmental building processes, including the use of solar energy in residential and commercial buildings.
What do you think? Should solar panels be required for new commercial buildings in Malibu? Tell us in the comments.
