Malibu Officials Head to Sacramento to Talk Tough on Rehabs

Those fed up with Malibu's rehab centers say they are a magnet for unwanted traffic and squadrons of paparazzi while paying little attention to their neighbors or the laws of the community.

A group of Malibu officials, including its mayor and city manager, are heading to Sacramento this week to discuss a slew of issues impacting Malibu.

Mayor Joan House, Councilman Lou La Monte, City Manager Jim Thorsen and City Attorney Christi Hogin plan to meet with State Sen. Fran Pavley and Assemblyman Richard Bloom.

The main items on the agenda include the proliferation of upscale rehabilitation facilities in Malibu. City officials say the rehabs tax the city's infrastructure and need to be put in check

“They’re being rugged cowboys and doing what they want, and that is unacceptable," said Mayor Joan House recently said in an interview with the Daily Beast.

The will also meet with Brian Annis, Undersecretary of Transportation, about CalTrans and Pacific Coast Highway safety and a parking study.

The trip will conclude with a meeting with director Will Lightbourne, of the Department of Social Services, David Dodds, Interim Deputy Director of the Community Care Licensing Division and Mary Jolls, Program Administration of Adult and Senior Care Program.
