The Malibu Planning Commission approved a Coastal Development Permit (CDP) for the Dan Blocker Beach project on Tuesday.

The project will cost $5.5 million to make the beach fully accessible to the public, reports the Malibu Times. The project could start in April.

The project "includes construction of 14 parking spaces and one ADA-compliant space, public viewing areas and a public restroom along the one-mile stretch of beach near Pacific Coast Highway and Corral Canyon Road," according to the article.

Plans unseen, I guarantee that my Landscaper and his crew can build what was stated above for a fraction of the $ 5.5 Million Dollar ticket. As a matter of fact, he'll have it done in 3 weeks with about $ 5 Million dollars left over. What could possibly warrant a monstrous price tag of $5.5 million.

"Plans unseen." Nuf said. It costs real money to build public facilities. Malibu residents cry "don't open the beach, no bathrooms," and then some still cry when bids are sent out to build the bathrooms. No wonder the legislature shoved it to us with the LCP.

They probably hired the same people who dug a big mud hole at the lagoon for the project. Who knows, we may be getting things like Kelp designed sinks and toilets, art nouveau kook blinds, eel grass fencing, and a bronze scenic map so all the kooks will know where they are.

Wouldn't it make sense for the State and County to build restrooms, create parking, steps, etc. at Las Tunas Beach and Corral Beach rather start an entirely new project. The City of Malibu should demand that other beaches be improved before improving Dan Blocker Beach. Just taking down the fence and dropping off an outhouse at Dan Blocker Beach would improve it to the same degree as Las Tunas Beach, Corral Beach and the entire stretch of publicly accessible beach from County Line to Point Magu.

Jaime- Decisions that make sense have almost become totally Extinct in all levels of City, County, State, and Federal Matters.
