Malibu Targeting High-End Rehab Facilities

Stars such as Lindsey Lohan and Charlie Sheen have come to Malibu to overcome their respective issues, but many say the centers are causing problems for others.

Luxurious rehab facilities in Malibu that open their doors to the addicted celebrity masses have become a bane of the community's existence and need to be dealt with, according to officials and residents in an article from The Daily Beast.

People fed up with the rehab centers say they are a magnet for unwanted traffic and squadrons of paparazzi while paying little attention to their neighbors or the laws of the community.

“They’re being rugged cowboys and doing what they want, and that is unacceptable," said Mayor Joan House to the Daily Beast.

Among the other voices in the story are City Attorney Christi Hogan, former Malibu mayor Ken Kearsley and Councilman Lou La Monte. The story also goes into the city's battle against Passages Malibu, one of the most well-known rehab centers.
