Mike Sidley Pulls Papers for Potential Council Run

He competed for a seat on the City Council in 2008, placing fifth in the 10-person race.

Attorney Mike Sidley is considering a second attempt to claim a seat on the . The Malibu native picked up nomination papers for the council election from  on Friday, according to the .

Sidley, 50, ran for council in 2010. The Serra Canyon resident placed fifth in the 10-person race. Laura Zahn Rosenthal and Lou La Monte were elected.

Sidley is an education activist, although he has also been involved in city issues, including the debate over the creation of a viewshed ordinance. His wife Wendy is the past president of the  PTSA. Sidley could not immediately be reached for comment on Friday.

The biggest election news on Friday was the announcement that incumbent . The other eligible incumbent, , became an official candidate on Friday after the county confirmed he had at least 20 signatures from registered Malibu voters on his nomination papers. Former Council member  also became an official candidate on Friday. Realtor/surfer  candidacy was confirmed last week.

The others who have pulled papers are former Council member ,  Commissioner , Bobby Heyward, "Malibu" Hamish "The Illusion" Patterson and Jack Utter. They have until Jan. 18 to return them.

The top three vote-getters in this election will win seats on the council. Election Day is April 10. The last day to register to vote is March 26.
