No Parking Near Paradise Cove Goes Into Effect Friday

The no parking signs are meant to increase safety along Pacific Coast Highway near Paradise Cove.

A stretch of no parking will go into effect Friday along 1,000-foot stretch of Pacific Coast Highway near Paradise Cove.

Caltrans received an emergency coastal development permit to install 10 parking signs where the guardrails are on both sides of Pacific Coast Highway, according to Joseph Smith, Malibu's senior planner.

Malibu has been working closely with Caltrans to implement the no parking zone.

Ten signs – five on the north side and five on the south -- were installed Thursday, but a cover was placed temporarily over the lettering.

An emergency coastal development permit can be issued in cases of public safety. Residents have long complained that visitors to Paradise Cove endanger themselves and others by parking along the highway and darting through traffic.

Caltrans will have to apply for a coastal development permit within 90 days.
