Nonprofit Awards Malibu Parks & Recreation Department

"Malibu is proud to offer opportunities for all to enjoy the health and recreational benefits of athletic participation," Malibu Mayor Lou La Monte said.

The city of Malibu was recently recognized with the 2012 Outstanding Agency of the Year Award and the 2012 Outstanding New Recreation Facility Award.

Both awards were given to the city by the Channel Cities Municipal Athletic Association, a nonprofit that promotes healthy living.

"Malibu is proud to offer opportunities for all to enjoy the health and recreational benefits of athletic participation," Mayor Lou La Monte said. "The City is very appreciative of these commendations from the Channel Cities Municipal Athletic Association."

The Outstanding Agency of the Year Award recognizes Malibu's 2012 Adult and Youth Sports Calendar, which offers a variety of physical activities, according to Olivia Damavandi, the city's spokeswoman.

The Outstanding New Recreation Facility Award was given because of the expansion of the Parks & Recreation Department at Malibu City Hall, Damavandi said.

These mark the third and fourth Channel Cities Municipal Athletic Association awards for the City of Malibu, which has also won the award for Innovative Sports Programming in 2010 and 2011.
