One Year Later, Malibu Library Marks Completion of All Renovation Work

On a warm Monday morning, the Malibu Public Library was teeming with people reading, using the computers and browsing for books.

It's been one year since the grand re-opening of the Malibu Library, which underwent a major renovation last year.

The Malibu City Council will accept a completion of all the work at its Monday night meeting. Most of the major work was completed before the grand opening, with just a few minor things left to do. It's standard to wait a year before accepting the completion of work.

The total cost of the renovation was $5.1 million, according to city documents. 

Since its re-opening last year, the library has started up the popular Malibu Library Speaker Series, featuring Garth Stein, author of "The Art of Racing in the Rain," and Kerry Max Cook, who wrote "Chasing Justice." 

An upcoming talk featuring Anne Lamott at 7 p.m. Thursday, May 16 is completely full, according to the library. There are a few spots left for the 7 p.m. Sunday, June 23 event with Elizabeth Gilbert, author of "Eat, Pray, Love" at the Malibu Civic Theatre, 23825 Stuart Ranch Road.
