Petition Emerges to Fight Plan to Bring Tigers Near Malibu

Neighbors have cited concerns about safety in their opposition to the proposal to house up to five tigers for filming purposes on a property near Malibu.

An online petition has popped up to protest a proposal to house up to five tigers at a property near Malibu for filming purposes.

The petition, called "Homeowners and residents : Oppose Tigers in Residential Neighborhoods," is located on Change.org, and already has more than 200 signatures as of Thursday. A Facebook page, "No Tigers in Malibu," was also created.

Neighbors have cited concerns about safety in their opposition to the proposal.

The home at 11077 Pacific View Avenue is surrounded by Point Mugu State Park, which was recently impacted by the Springs Fire, to the north, and rural, private properties to the east, south and west.

According to the proposal, which was submitted by Irena Hauser: "The animal enclosures will be tended by the property owners and their family. There will be no employees brought to the site to care for the animals."

The fence height requirements will be mandated through permits issued by USDA and CDFG, according to the proposal.

The proposal is up for public comment through Aug. 26. Comments should be sent to Jay Dobrowalski at Jay.Dobrowalski@ventura.org or at County of Ventura, RMA, Planning Division, 800 S. Victoria Ave., Ventura, Calif.
