PHOTOS: 3 New Signs Installed in Santa Monica Mountains Recreation Area

The gateway signs cost $35,000 and were paid for out of the Santa Monica Mountains Fund.

Three brand new signs were installed Thursday in the Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area to replace worn and weathered ones.

"The colorful design represents a new graphic identity for the Santa Monica Mountains, which we hope will build awareness of the complex network of public land agencies that make up the Santa Monica Mountains," said Kate Kuykendall, a SMMNRA public affairs officer.

The graphic design was funded by a grant from the Bechtel Foundation. The three gateway signs were installed at a cost of $35,000 and came from the Santa Monica Mountains Fund.

"They're coated with special UV protection and a graffiti-resistant seal, so they're expected to last 20-30 years," Kuykendall said.

The new signs are located on Kanan Road, Las Virgenes Road, and one on Pacific Coast Highway near Point Mugu.
