UPDATE: Water Turned Back On at Malibu Country Estates

The collapse of a water main at the Malibu Country Estates is the second break in as many days in Malibu.

UPDATE at 3 p.m. -- Crews repaired a collapsed water main in the Malibu Country Estates area near Pepperdine University Thursday.

The leak was reported just before 10 a.m. and water has been shut off to 30 to 35 customers, according to Mike Caspar, a spokesman with the Los Angeles County Department of Public Works.

A section of the pipe collapsed, Caspar said, adding that repairs were finished about 3 p.m.

Crews will continue to repair the road until 6 p.m., when two-way traffic will be allowed through, according to Caspar.

"This is the kind of thing that does occasionally happen," Caspar said.

At one time a pool of water rushed down the street for about 20 minutes, according to a resident.

"It started with a trickle and it got bigger and bigger quickly," said Margee Ensign, who lives on Malibu Country Drive.

A road closed sign was placed on Malibu Country Drive at John Tyler.

A more permanent fix will take place on Monday, Caspar said.
