Community to Celebrate Career of Longtime Malibu Principal

The celebration will also honor Principal Phil Cott's office manager, Lore Meline.

A popular Malibu principal known for his sense of humor will be honored, along with his longtime office manager, at a special picnic Sunday.

Webster Elementary School principal Phil Cott and longtime office manager Lore Meline retired recently. Cott served in Malibu for 23 years.

The party starts at 4 p.m. Sunday, June 9, at Webster elementary School, with the official speeches and program beginning at 5 p.m.

Families are encouraged to bring a picnic, or buy food from the food trucks on site; the Cheesecake Factory is donating desserts, according to organizers.

The event will be emceed by former Pt. Dume principal Chi Kim, and former MHS principal and district head of human resources Mike Matthews. It will include performances by past and present students along with some surprise performances and speakers.

"Cott was instrumental in bringing many school improvements, including getting the asphalt playground at Webster converted to grassy fields, an expanded library, murals and flowers and landscaping throughout the grounds – physical improvements difficult in these challenging economic times," according to a post written by Dorothy Reinhold.

Meline has worked at Webster for 25 years, has been a pillar of stability in the front office, Reinhold wrote.
