Malibu Runners Shine at Championships

Runners Caroline Pietryzk, Charlotte Jackson and Caitlin Meyers finish among the top runners at the Ventura County Cross Country Championships.

Malibu High School Cross Country athletes Caroline Pietryzk, Charlotte Jackson and Caitlin Meyers finished among the top runners at the Ventura County Cross Country Championships on Friday at Lake Casitas.

Pietryzk (18:59) ranked ninth in the State in Division IV and finished ninth in the Varsity Girl’s 3-mile race earning All-Ventura County honors. The nations top-ranked high school girl cross-country runner, Sara Baxter from Simi Valley, won the race in an outstanding time of 17:15. There were 120 runners competing in their division.

Freshmen Jackson (20:58) and Meyers (21:35), finished second and fourth respectively out of 129 runners, in the Girl’s Frosh/Soph race. The duo ran outstanding times for freshmen on the challenging course.

Juniors Dyer Pettijohn (18:14), Erik Rosenberg (18:59) recorded over one-minute improvements from last year’s times.

Next up, the Sharks conclude their regular season this Thursday at the Tri-County League Championships at Lake Casitas, beginning at 3:30 p.m.
