Sharks Head Into Playoffs on a Winning Streak

Boys varsity water polo team beats Santa Monica for their sixth straight win. The Sharks are ranked No. 1 as they head into the CIF playoffs next week.

Friday afternoon's game against the Santa Monica Vikings was more then just a final tuneup before the playoffs start.  The Sharks also possibly put their No. 1 ranking in Division VI on the line.  Santa Monica has long been a difficult match up for the Sharks in the past, but they were more then the Vikings could handle in this game.

The Sharks got off to a strong start with consecutive goals from outside by Henry Buckley, Jens Cole, Morgan Hathorn and Emmet Pierson.  After the Vikings finally scored Owen Frans and Hathorn scored from 6 meters out and then Pierson scored after stealing the ball from the Viking goalie.  The Vikings answered with a couple of goals but the score was 7 to 3 after just one quarter.

Jordan Clarke joined in on the fun and scored two goals off rebounds, including one where it appeared he shot it in while being underwater.  Hathorn added one more and the Sharks led 10 to 5 at half time.  Dane Sartorius was excellent in goal and had several excellent saves and ended the game with an impressive 20 blocks.  After halftime the scoring pretty much ended and the game became a physical battle.  The Vikings scored once in the fourth quarter and the Sharks won 10 to 6.
