Malibu High School's Ah Young Chi was appointed this week to the Standing Committee on National College Fairs for NACAC.
Ah Young Chi's three-year term will begin in October for the National Association for College Admission Counseling, an organization of more than 13,000 professionals from around the world dedicated to serving students as they make choices about pursuing postsecondary education.
The National College Fair Committee makes recommendations for programs, and review guidelines and operations for college fairs.
Ah Young currently serves as the co-chair for the Greater Los Angeles National College Fair's Local Arrangements Committee.
Ah Young became the College and Career Counselor at Malibu High School in 2009. Since then, she created new programs, raised expectations for students, and increased awareness of MHS in the college community.
As a result of her efforts, the Western Association for College Admission Counseling (WACAC) recognized her with the Steve Hankins New Counselor Award in May 2011. Most recently, she received an Honorary Service Award from the Malibu High School PTSA.
Prior to this position, Ah Young was an Admission Counselor at Loyola Marymount University. She received a Bachelor of Science degree in General Biology from UCSD. She then attended Loyola Marymount University for a Master of Arts degree in Counseling and a Pupil Personnel Services Credential in School Counseling. She is also an active Freshmen Application Reviewer for UCLA.
