School Board Elects New President

Laurie Liberman takes the helm of the Santa Monica-Malibu Unified School District.

The Santa Monica-Malibu Unified School District Board of Education elected Laurie Lieberman to serve as board president and Maria Leon-Vazquez to serve as board vice president as its meeting Thursday night. 

“Our district is fortunate to have such dedicated elected officials,” Superintendent Sandra Lyon said. “I look forward to working with both Ms. Lieberman and Ms. Leon-Vazquez as they take on their leadership roles for the year.” 

Lieberman was elected to the board in 2010, and Leon-Vazquez was elected in 2000 and more recently reelected in November.

Liberman takes the place of Ben Allen, who was also recently reelected in November.
