Two School Board Candidate Forums in the Works at Malibu City Hall

The Malibu City Council is slated to vote on whether to host the forums in Malibu at its Monday meeting.

The Malibu City Council will consider a request from the League of Women Voters of Santa Monica for the city to host two candidate forums at leading up to the November election.

The council is expected to vote on the request to host candidates of the Santa Monica-Malibu Unified School District Board of Education and the Santa Monica College Board of Trustees at its Monday meeting, which begins at 6 p.m.

"The Mayor received a request from the League of Women Voters of
Santa Monica (League) asking that the City host two candidates forums at Malibu City Hall to allow voters the opportunity to learn more about the candidates running for seats on the School Board and College Board," according to a staff report prepared by Malibu City Manager Jim Thorsen.

The request comes as three Malibu residents have stepped forward as candidates for the SMMUSD Board of Education. Craig Foster, Karen Farrer and Seth Jacobson pulled papers earlier this month.

According to Thorsen, the League of Women Voters of Santa Monica plans to reimburse city staff for the cost of putting on the forum.
