Wheels To The Sea

Twice a year volunteers help the wheelchair-challenged to experience the backcountry in a hike/bike/wheelchair 5-mile journey along Big Sycamore Canyon Trail from Newbury Park to the beaches of Malibu. The wilderness hike is led by a naturalist, and sponsored by the non-profit organization, Wilderness Institute. A community of volunteers from all over SoCal lend a hand, along with several Rotary Clubs, National Park Service, California State Parks, California Highway Patrol, and the Mountain Bike Unit. The one-way hikers enjoy a hearty brunch midway, and a celebratory, family-style BBQ at the beach. Free to all volunteers. Community service hours available for youths. For more info, visit http://wildernessinstitute.com
