Malibu High Water Polo Continues Winning Streaks

The varsity and junior varsity teams swim to easy victories over Nordhoff.

The  water polo teams cruised to easy victories over Nordhoff on Wednesday afternoon in front of the home crowd. The varsity team (8-4-1, 3-0 in Tri-Valley League) won 13-1 for its sixth straight victory. The junior varsity squad won 19-2 for its fourth consecutive win.

Theo Guillemot led the varsity team in scoring with five goals. George Karaghossian had a great game with three goals, two assists and five steals. Emmet Pierson and Michael Mitze scored two goals apiece. Goalie Dane Sartorius blocked all shot attempts for three quarters, and then scored the final goal of the game. He was never seriously tested at goal. Sophomore Henry Buckley also played well and had five assists.

Leading the JV squad in scoring was Arvin Abolfathi with five goals. Oscar Cedillo and Matt Awbrey had three goals apiece and Owen Franz added two goals to the effort. Alec Wilovsky, Cooper Bell, Isaac Vandor, Jason Frankel and Max Ney each scored a goal. Freddy Keith had four assists and Max Ney grabbed three steals.

Next up for the Sharks teams are games at Villanova on Friday. The squads play at home again Oct. 13 against Oaks Christian starting at 3:15 p.m.
