Malibu Junior Lifeguards Dominate Newport Beach Competition

The Malibu junior lifeguards raced against top teams from around the world, including the Newport Beach Jr. Lifeguards, Huntington Beach Jr. Lifeguards and New Zealand's PIHA Jr. Lifeguards.

Nine Los Angeles County Junior Lifeguards from Zuma Beach took to the sand and waves in the competitive Regional Lifeguard Competition in Newport Beach Friday. 

The Malibu competitors were: 

  • Angela Drake who is in the C division girls came in fourth in the Paddle relay and sixth in the Individual Paddle.
  • Tess Farrar who is in the A division girls came fourth in the Run-Swim-Run, third in the Paddle Relay, and fourth in the Individual Distance Paddle.
  • Alex Goodman who is in the A division boys came in 3rd in the Run Relay and 4th in the Beach Flags.
  • Ben Lansbury who is in the C division boys came first in the Individual Distance Run, second in Individual Distance Paddle and fifth in the Paddle Relay.
  • Holly Maine who is in the C division girls came third in the Paddle Relay and sixth in the Individual Paddle.
  • Caroline Pietrzyk who is in the A division girls came first in the distance run, first in the Run Swim Run and third in the Paddle Board Relay.
  • Kate Pietrzyk who is in the B division girls competed in the Run-Swim-Run.
  • Thomas Ryan who is in the A division boys came in first in the Paddle Relay, fifth in the Individual Run and fifth in the Individual Paddle.
  • Farah Stack who is in the A division girls came first in the Swim Relay, and fifth in the Individual Swim.
The junior lifeguards will go on to compete at the United States Lifesaving Association National Championships on Aug. 7 in Manhattan Beach.
