Malibu's Caroline Pietrzyk Sets Personal Best, Races to State Finals

Caroline Pietrzyk becomes the first runner in Malibu High School history to advance to the state finals.

The track season is going continue for Malibu High School runner Caroline Pietrzyk at the CIF State Track & Field finals.

Pietrzyk became the first runner in MHS school history to advance to the state finals.

She ran a terrific 3200-meter race at the CIF Southern Section Masters Meet posting a 10:35.91. That time reduced her personal best by 12 seconds, according to coach Jennifer Gonzalez.

Pietrzyk's time of 10:35 met the automatic qualifying standard of 10:39.

The only other athlete in Malibu High School history to go to state was Troy Becker who placed third in the pole vault in 1999.

The 2013 CIF State Track & Field Championships presented by Farmers will be held on May 31 and June 1 at Veterans Memorial Stadium in Clovis, Calif.
