MHS Cross Country Team Off to Strong Start

"It was an outstanding day for the Sharks. The conditions were hot and dusty, but our runners were undeterred. Every one of them finished strong and ran aggressively," Malibu High School Head Cross Country Coach Karen Costello said.

Malibu High School sophomore Caroline Pietrzyk established a new course record on the three-mile cross country course at the Woodbridge Invitational on Friday, finishing first out of field of 126 with a time of 18:58.

“Caroline wanted to break 20:00 minutes today. She had a personal record on this course of over a minute from last year. We were very impressed,” said Malibu High School Head Cross Country Coach Karen Costello.

Peitrzyk led the Sharks to an impressive showing at the invitational. Fifteen out of 17 runners established personal records in their first three-mile race of the season.
