Sharks Water Polo Advances to CIF Championship

This will be Malibu High's second appearance in the title game in three years.

A fourth-period goal by senior Sophie Galate broke a 2-2 tie and turned out to be the winning score in the CIF Southern Section Division VI water polo semifinals match against Cerritos High Wednesday at Cal Lutheran University in Thousand Oaks. The second-seeded Sharks (23-9) will play top-seeded Warren High (24-7) in the championship game Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at the Woollett Jr. Aquatic Center (4601 Walnut Ave.) in Irvine.

Galate's goal was her second in the defensive battle. The team's other score came from sophomore Alyse Farrar, who tied the game at 2 in the third period. The Sharks defense was led by senior goalkeeper JoJo White, who had 10 saves.

This will be Malibu High's second appearance in three years in the CIF title game. The 2008-09 squad fell to Bonita High in what was Malibu High's first-ever CIF championship appearance for water polo.
