Zuma Beach Junior Lifeguards Dominate Regional Competition

Four L.A. County junior lifeguards and an instructor from Zuma Beach participated in the very competitive JG Regional Competition in Newport Beach.

Four L.A. County junior lifeguards and an instructor from Zuma Beach dominated the JG Regional Competition at the Newport Beach Pier last week.

Los Angeles County Junior Guards Rachel Rachel Atkins, Liz Boland, Caroline Pietrzyk and Farah Stack all placed in the competition on Friday, July 27. Competitors came from as far as Capitola, Santa Cruz and San Diego.

Rachel Atkins was in the AA division and placed first in the Swim Relay, second in the Individual Paddle Board, and second in the Paddle Board Relay.

Caroline Pietrzyk competed in the A division and placed first in the Individual Distance Run and fourth in the Run-Swim-Run Relay. 

Liz Boland competed in the B division and placed second in the Individual Flags competition and seventh in the Run Relay.

Farah Stack competed in the B division and placed first in the Swim Relay and ninth in the Individual Run. 

Instructor Shari Latta, who competed on Saturday, June 28, was first in her age group for the 2K Run, Paddle Board Race, Ironman Race and Surfski Race, third in the Taplin Relay, and third in the Paddle Board Relay.
