Freedom Surf Camp Focuses on Education in the Outdoors

The camp in Malibu is among several that teaches respect for the environment.

Many surf camps pop up in the summer along the coastline near Los Angeles, but Gilad Lewandovski uses Malibu locals to teach kids at Freedom Surf Camp.

"At our camp, it is more of an education program," Lewandovski said. "Our program fosters a respect for our natural environment, on land and in the water."

The Freedom Surf Camp at has the sole permit from the City of Malibu to teach on Third Point.

"Our instructors are totally local," Lewandovski said. "It's a special place because you really need to work along with people in the water."

He said his youngest instructor has surfed Malibu for the past 10 years.
