Malibu High, Pepperdine Students Serve in Kenya

A group of 27 from Malibu High School and the University Church of Christ at Pepperdine left on a two-week trip this week to work in Kenya with homeless street children.

The team will work alongside the staff of Made in the Streets, a ministry serving homeless street youth in the slums of Nairobi for almost 20 years.

The students and parents will spend each day working with children who have been rescued from the slums and are now living at Made in the Streets’ boarding school, where children are taught basic English, math, and science. The hope is that each student will pass the Kenyan equivalent of a high school GED. After the students graduate at the age of 18, MITS helps with the job search in the city of Nairobi.

The team from Malibu will be involved in teaching and training these students during their stay in Nairobi. They will also run an afterschool soccer camp with supplies donated by local AYSO, Malibu High, and Pepperdine groups. Hundreds of soccer cleats, socks, and uniforms were donated by the Malibu community.
