Drug running on our beaches?!?!?! For my Grandfather, who settled here in the early 50's this placeRead More would be unrecognizable

Disgusting.

There are houses transformed into meth labs all over LA, not just Malibu. There are also markets allRead More over LA for selling their product. You can make meth in your kitchen - not the 'breaking bad' variety, but still the variety to get you very high. People do drugs. People make and distribute drugs. The drug 'war' has failed miserably. Over 2000 war veterans in the USA have committed suicide in the USA upon returning home since January 1, 2014! Are these suicides related to the 'war on drugs?' Damn straight they are. People are self-medicating in any form available since they are not being treated for their PTSD and depression and anxiety and overall emotional neglect. These meth labs are a direct result of neglect and abandonment by a culture of greed, political abuses and 'I got mine, fuck you' acceptance normalized. No where in LA is their more disparity of wealth than Malibu but meth labs exist everywhere. Fires are the least of the dangers. We are imploding and we are blaming the 'addicts.' We are doomed.

John April 7, 2014 at 01:05 pm
These boats are filled with pot from giant drug organizations that would lose billions of dollars ifRead More pot (among other drugs) was legal. Legalize and this goes away.
Saltwater April 8, 2014 at 06:19 am
Sorry. I just don't believe that legalization will eliminate the criminal element from the potRead More trade.
John April 8, 2014 at 10:24 am
Our state is also great at regulation so ponder this. Legalize the use of marijuana. The stateRead More grows it, packages it, and sells it via state approved outlets. Only state produced strands are legal. Quality of what is used for it's growth is controlled. Just imagine the money our state would have. No more drug runs from the South. No more of our environment being poisoned including our national parks. Addiction centers paid for by the industry, roads can be fixed, homeless can be fed. Do it!

USGS's Did You Feel It shows a bunch more counties where this was felt than the seven listed in thisRead More article. Add Santa Barbara, San Luis Obispo, Imperial, and Inyo. In Nevada, add Nye and Clark (Las Vegas). In Arizona, add Maricopa (Phoenix). http://earthquake.usgs.gov/earthquakes/eventpage/ci15481673#dyfi
Lynn Smith March 30, 2014 at 07:54 am
Just as researchers are starting to link earthquakes with fracking in Texas and surrounding states,Read More Southern California has four earthquakes in a month. Our city officials need to ban this needless, dangerous and largely unregulated business.

I live on Latigo and I could tell that something was going on with Kanan Dume Road. I have had tonsRead More and tons of traffic coming down the road and going up. Hopefully it will be over soon. Would love to have some peace up here again!
Sally Dibaei March 25, 2014 at 07:30 am
There was no sign about the closure on both end of kanan. Hundreds of cars drove up & returned.Read More I missed my doctor appointment. I wish there was some warning.
Tammy Gainer March 25, 2014 at 11:12 am
This road closure was handled very poorly! The Highway patrol made everyone drive about 5 miles upRead More to the problem then told us to turn around. No signs, no report on the radio. I called the highway patrol and they said they were short staffed and later when I needed to go back ivcalled to see if it was still closed and their computers were down and they ccould not give me an update. What a nightmare driving Latigo cyn, very windey and cars all over the road.

Carl, the quote of mine that you posted has to do with all people who have crossed the borderRead More illegally and not the parents of these kids. However, I do think that there is a good chance that the parents of these kids are illegal.

A physically abusive father and husband and some are concerned with citizenship? I think that you'reRead More missing the point here. Those that automatically assume undocumented when the surnames are Hispanic might have to rethink later this month when the Hispanic percentage in California surpasses the non-Hispanic white population.
Nanette Pastor-Hanna March 17, 2014 at 09:45 am
How does leaving the children with their grandmother constitute "protective custody" whenRead More the abusive parent knows the address of his mother/mother-in-law? This is yet another example of the incompetence of the social welfare system in Los Angeles! We need and deserve accountability. Moreover, the children deserve better than this!

Everyone needs to go to the city council meeting on Monday and raise hell with them for allowingRead More this type of an event to inconvenience the population of Malibu and surrounding areas for a bunch of rich people who are not full time residents of Malibu or even US citizens. Malibu has had US presidents stay in Malibu with much less inconvenience to the local residents why do these people get special treatment? Malibu should enact an ordinance that these for money events where people are charged for attending an event in Malibu the City gets a 25% or more tax on the proceeds that will go to a cause in the city that benefits everyone. This event at $5000 a person would have net the city a good amount of money...
Scott Hosfeld March 7, 2014 at 06:58 am

Judi, those cars that are parked there have a right to park there and have never bothered me. IRead More agree that the cars that are there can make things slightly more challenging if you are pulling out of the gas station, but I have more trouble with people making a slow right from Heather Cliff and pulling in front of me on PCH going 50 MPH. Also realize that there are a lot of travelers that do not travel these roads as often as us and make foolish decisions as a result. I don't think these people realize that the cars are traveling at 50 MPH. There's not a whole lot we can do about this, I feel. We could make a "Nor Right On Red" over there, maybe.

The interview this woman gave to KTLA (from inside her car no less) regarding MHS was almost exactlyRead More a month before this accident occurred and is very telling. That Harley trike was custom-made for him by the VA and it and his disability dog were the joys in his life. Levi was admitted as a John Doe to UCLA Trauma and it took my brother 24 hours to find him. He took a turn for the worse yesterday and is not going to make it. Need fixed-location ALPR @ JTD/PCH as a net/baseline before bisection at MCR. . ARead More second fixed-location ALPR at City Limits on MCR would deduce S/B PCH trajectory by subtracting one "hit" from the other's database. . . Malibu should be the lead agency applying for GRANT for these two ALPRs because for the 8,000 avg/day population of Malibu residents for around 50,000 avg vehicle trips/day on PCH = 16% of project cost (which coincides with the administrative contribution). . Because ALPRs would create "hits" for vehicles stolen in other jurisdictions, overdue rental cars, and potentially wanted felons, the "right-now" traffic law enforcement burdens created rightly belong to the California Highway Patrol, whose expertise in high-speed traffic issues is second to none. Large fines for many offenses go to the State. For the statistical database compilation, the operational costs for ALPR, and any associated crime-shift responses by the City of Malibu, should be fully borne by the warrant-generating, or filing jurisdiction solving their problems (like bounty hunting). . There is about a 20-minute drive between Malibu Canyon Road and Ventura County. Inter-agency cooperation should rank this grant proposal at the top of a grant-score list. . I hope the powers-that-be (legislature, governor, Zev, Baca, and Mayor House) can accelerate this win-win-win project by repealing discriminatory CVC 2400.6 preventing the proper inter-agency cooperation and funding.
R Y A N October 26, 2013 at 05:45 pm
ALPR = Automatic License Plate Recognition (Reader). Captain Dave Williams, San Bernardino CARead More Sheriff: “We’re equipping 5 intersections throughout the City. Any crime that occurs – all we have to do is check the intersections for times that we’re looking for and we’re going to see the criminal vehicle coming through that intersection.” “Oftentimes . . . had it not been for the ALPR, we would not be solving these crimes.” http://boingboing.net/2012/10/25/how-automatic-license-plate-re.html Many travelers on PCH are commuters following a routine. They were there the day before, possibly around the same time. They may be there again -- at about the same time. Sheriff might like an electronic alert should a suspect vehicle return. There would also be a plate number for submission to the State database so if the vehicle was tracked in a nearby City the same day/next day, a personal traffic pattern could be developed to aid detectives.
