It figures the decor was designed by a Beverly Hills restauranteur. The best word to describe it is…Read More Hollow. It's kinda funny they're known for preparing duck, and it's right across from the Lagoon where more Hallow people just wasted millions to save ducks.

Two stores that are going to provide some of the basic essentials residents of this City need?…Read More Plus "All Saints" as if we don't have enough choice of over the top expensive clothing for sale in Malibu.
Murano glass or not, still think we'll be traipsing up to Malibu Glass for what we really want out of our glass products!!! Probably more enlightening & interesting for us to have a Chiluly (He's at least a West Coast, home grown Artist of international note having studied in Murano) exhibit from time to time.
Find this news underwhelming to say the least

You can bring in all of the real estate brokers in town and it wont make the faux lumberyard any…Read More more attractive to the community.
It is poorly designed with many dead areas,(second floor and dead corners) and is full of overpriced unnecessary items like most Malibu stores. I hope the Glimcher Trust ends up hating their investment.

I hate what my hometown, in what was once the good old Wild West, has become. Won't see me caving in…Read More and deferring to a short memory as if it will be cool someday. Won't see me patronizing some dude that says, "If it were not an a-hole like me, it would be some other a-hole." As long as the devil is on your side, right? What a douche! Old school Malibu will live on in our hearts, R.I.P. Point Pizza, Dume Room, and the soul of home sweet home.

Regarding D'Amore's, I believe there are two groups of people in Malibu: those who don't know the…Read More truth about what really happened (and will therefore, unfortunately, patronize D'Amore's) and those who do know the truth and will never, ever set foot in any D'Amore's establishment anywhere. What Joe D'Amore did was wrong and it will always be wrong, no matter how he tries to spin it or how much time passes. His actions were heinous, he knows exactly what he did, and many of us will never forget...

Thanks for the update, when is the rest of the market opening?
Erica Hamilton April 22, 2013 at 01:20 am
um... seriously. an urban outfitter replacing the charter cable eyesore. i have only been here five…Read More years, but the whole cross-creek area is a C- in my book. it is not picturesque, idyllic, rural or anything like that. it suffers from intensive identity confusion. it is not ojai, and wouldn't make it in santa monica, is filled with pretension, conceit, and business failure. it is not an especially pleasant place to go unless you are with friends. give me ojai or a promenade, but the cross creek is a confused mess. at the least, urban outfitters might provide strong revenues and jobs for an area that does not understand how perilous and parlous the economy is, and a place where people who aren't as good as malibu's best citizens (i mean, where some people don't have as much money as others) might get products they want at a reasonable price. a some kids might get jobs. or, we can have an empty and ugly charter box.
Erica Hamilton April 22, 2013 at 12:59 am

"I also believe that our shopping center owners will listen and will be responsive to positive,…Read More reasonable input regarding the tenants that they rent to,"
Oh yes, and if you wear sparkly red shoes and click your heals together three times and proclaim these words "There's no place like home", you'll up end in Kansas.
Thank God, this City Council is finally using some intelligence.
BTW, your allegiance is well noted.

I'm not sure if this will work, but I think it's worth trying acupuncture. My daughter goes to a…Read More great place called "The Art of Wellness" in Santa Monica and sees Dr. Tan. She thinks he's helped her tremendously. The other suggestion is trying an electric bed and sleep with the bed raised both for the legs and the head so it doesn't put a strain on your back. I'm hoping and praying this suggestion will help.
R Y A N April 11, 2013 at 05:28 pm
These shopping center flippers may still be holding paper, so the risks and rewards to individuals…Read More might be more than we think. Regardless, the City will develop a legally defensible ordinance that achieves a public purpose. The current lack of regulation has brought us Cross Creek, Trancas, and Point Dume. If you think these centers work well and serve local needs, you're in denial, biased, or an investor.
A tourist mentality does not sustain profitability. Tourism is a minor part of the year. Operating loss-leading stores for public relations or a "advertising" value is not a primary retail use. If using space for seasonal tourist, it prevents a practical, locally-serving business need year-round.

Why doesn't the will of the people seem to translate in who gets voted in to represent the people?…Read More And then what to say about those who campaign saying one thing and supporting something else after being voted in? Does speaking out at council meetings matter? Is it a have to for council or do they really listen? Is it about the greater good or running a personal agenda? We are trying not to be discouraged in Malibu but looking for the real thing in another town is becoming our reality. What a shame. The erosion and destruction of what was special here can never be regained. Is paradise lost? I guess that answer is dependant on the definition of paradise by those in power. Why couldn't things be left the way they were found way back when? Why move some place that is unique unto itself and develop the heck out of it so it resembles some place else you could have moved to from the start? Oh yes now I remember. Follow the money or the agenda. For those of us who moved here to get away from a planned community, is it rapidly becoming déjà vu? Come on people visit south Orange County is that what is really wanted? Thanks for listening. Really needing words of encouragement.

Dee, I'll explain it the best I can, the greedy little pigs on our council think with all the fancy…Read More stores their trough will be overflowing with tax dollars to spend on projects that they personally think will benefit Malibu. Our Council is no different then the politicians thru out our country, they have forgot they were elected to serve the needs of the People, not the other way around.

At this stage of uncertainty, the developer might be willing to get out without further potential…Read More losses from designs, engineering, tests, lobbyists, etc. If he got what he paid for the l and at the height of the market, that should do it. There was $2 million from that developer ready for a "mitigation" donation, remember. Maybe it is time for the developer to reconsider if this project can ever be profitable, cut losses now, and move on to a more promising investment.

Barrie, you can't blame park land for the loss of Suzanne Sommers’ house. She had a pine tree…Read More growing over the top of her roof? Another house that burned was built entirely of wood with a jungle of plants growing on it. People always blame the adjacent park land when houses burn, but the main factor is the house itself, its materials and what is growing immediately adjacent to the house. Not to mention 60 to 90 mph Santa Ana winds. Structure fires burn hotter and can be much more dangerous than fast burning brush fires.

"Maybe the only business that can open a hotel happens to be a more chain style. They are going…Read More to say no even though that is a priority use."
the coastal commission must be in bed with the developers. it's interesting that the coastal program analyst mentions a hotel because hotels in malibu is a priority, right??? the hotel in eastern malibu is vacant most of the year. Will the coastal commission profit from Rancho Malibu?
...look around at all of the visitor friendly shops that corporate greed has offered up.
tourists and visitors like authentic products that are hand crafted by locals. would a tourist in hawaii buy a ukulele from walmart, or from some local who makes them in his little shack? chain stores are lifeless money making machines, and our capitalistic society has reached its tipping point. are we machines, or are we people? define affordable. what is our quality of life worth?
M Stanley April 2, 2013 at 05:36 pm
The head of the Coastal Commission did for Carmel what he refuses to do for Malibu?? How can he…Read More possibly live it down if we simply employ the same methods as he championed for that city before he assumed so much power. Dr. Charles Lester was heralded by the residents of Carmel-by-the-Sea for his support of the community charm and historical value as a seaside community facing growing pains. It's up to all of us to remind him of that and to demand that our city investigate his support of the Carmel ordinances that protect their treasured lifestyle. We could learn a LOT from communities like ours, here's a start to identifying our town from within based on historical facts rather than continuing to let developer interests define Malibu. What are we waiting for? http://ci.carmel.ca.us/carmel/index.cfm/linkservid/A836D277-3048-7B3D-C52E40C677DF9680/showMeta/0/
