My interest in hair and makeup sparked when I was modeling and traveling in Asia. My hair and makeup stylist lived a life of independence and creativity, and came to work in jeans. I appreciated the freedom of not wearing a suit or uniform every day, especially with the few past jobs I’ve had, but that’s another story!

Upon my return to the States, I wanted a fun way to make a living that felt like me. I began working with Elite Modeling Agency’s list of photographers in exchange for pictures of models from their “New Face” campaign to be included in my styling portfolio. I prepped the models’ hair, touched up their makeup, accessorized their outfits, and would hold the light-board for the photographer all day. My only payment was a “New Face” for my book. Needless to say, that didn’t last! In 1997, I began working behind a chair in Malibu and added a West Hollywood location.
