Thanks to level-headed, clear thinking at the Planning Commission. 5-0 against the billboard sign. 5-0 against tearing out three sycamore trees on Trancas Canyon Road. 5-0 against the current sign plan for the 30-plus tenants. 5-0 for the applicant to come back with a mock up to demonstrate the unusual lighting arrangements for the 30 or so tenant signs. What will the lights behind them will look like? How will they avoid lighting up the walls, which is illegal? That's a very reasonable compromise - as Commissioner Brotman said, maybe the proposed signs will be nice. We don't know. Plus, the applicant heard loud and clear from 20 or so Malibu residents: don't ignore us, "Western Malibu is not Missouri." The developers have built a beautiful project. They need to work with us - not in a vacuum - on finishing it off with appropriate signs and lights.
